This is one of the anchors upon which the good ship tourmaline, manned by the droplets of color, stays on course. Except for a few rare cases involving zoned crystals, the reds always have a darker tone value. And sometimes they can seem to lack as much transparency as you would expect. Some other reds will disappoint the searcher with a strong purple overtone, or a brownish overtone that comes out in incandescent. Still the searcher must try to navigate all the near reds and unstable reds and anchor in a safe harbor. Its crystal is not the best, but the sultry red that flashes out makes the crew of droplets happy, as they toast it. For this is a necessary color on the good ship tourmaline.
