This really nice, medium toned, dancing emerald cut has just one green color. No dark closed ends for this gem. It is lightly included and weighs 1.34 carats.
This emerald cut is an example of why it is difficult to make broad generalized statements about tourmaline. Many tourmalines do not show strong or even noticeably pleochroic/dichroic effects. There are many tourmalines in my collection that can not be oriented to the c axis (principle axis) by any change in tone level or color.
The posted emerald cut has only one color, but it does appear to be somewhat richer down the c axis. This increased tone level in the c axis is expected, but can be difficult to verify in longer ratio emerald cuts. I look at the stone threw the corners to try and get a feeling for how open or different the dichroic colors are before and after I finish an emerald cut. The lack of darkness in the ends of the emerald cut makes it dances with a nice crisp medium green. It is lightly included and not being eye clean is shared with many lighter toned greens. This bright, fun, stone weighs in at 1.34 carats.
