This standard round brilliant is a fine stable red that can be called a Rubellite. It has one inclusion, with the rest of the round being bright, flashy and eye clean. It weighs 2.42 carats.
Some tourmalines are memorable even when they are not large. This standard round brilliant is a Rubellite and I really only like to use that old trade name for high quality red tourmaline. The red tourmaline should not desaturate into a brownish shade of red. I will accept a red that slides into purplish as the sky get bluer, but a Rubellite should be red under daylight equivalent lighting not a purple red. I may sound picky about using Rubellite, but some people in the trade want to get rid of the name completely. They claim among other things that tourmaline has never been mistaken for ruby and that is not true, historically. Besides, who says that a fine Rubellite has to look like ruby to have a separate category for its exceptional color. This beautiful Rubellite has an obvious inclusion next to its girdle. I made a deliberate premeditated decision to leave it in, since it would be covered by a prong if it was ever set, and to take it out completely would have stolen too much beauty. This round is 2.42 carats of medium rich toned, flashy, fiery red. I love Rubellite my way.
