A 1.89 carat oval with a simple 3 step crown that is bright, eye clean and on the verge of red. A very nice ring stone.
I don’t think that the debate on the cut off between red and pink is as important with tourmaline as it is with corundum because of the expense that is associated with ruby verses pink sapphire, but is sill important to me. I have a continuing quest for every red out there and only a moderate need for pinks. This, in part, is a reflection of the market in Africa where moderate to light pinks are relatively abundant and a good red rare.
This bright clean oval with a simple three step crown has all the great properties of a pink. Clean color without overtone, great crystal with only mild dichroism, but I want it to be a red. Now reds tend to be included and at times not very transparent. They can also temp you with a red c axis and very lightly toned a/b axis that has to be cut as an emerald or oval cut without accentuating the red because you can not waste too much material even in the quest for red. As the sun rises on this 1.89 carat oval, I have to say it is a rich pink, but when held in the shadow of my heart it pulses with red. Still a definite winner.
