I am addicted to cuprian purple. This oval came from a very included piece of rough, and it is a passable gemstone if you love purple with a touch of blue, a rare color in tourmaline, It weighs 1.97 carats.
My principal dealer out of Africa still manages to pick up a few cuprian tourmaline pieces of rough (2013) and I keep spending too much for too little because of my purple addition. I bought the rough for this gemstone as highly included material, but I saw some transparency in the picture on the internet and gambled on it. When I get a piece of rough with genuine issues concerning flaws and inclusions, I start removing material that is beyond hope and continuously evaluate the remain options. I was able to remove all significant feathers except for one that is oriented vertically to the table and cuts across one quarter of the gemstone, barely missing being under the table. So far so good, but I couldn’t eliminate the gemstones poor crystal qualities and it is rather sleepy. Still it has a very nice medium toned purple that is a little on the blue side. Which is great and keeps the stone, with the rare cuprian color, in my collection even if it sleeps a lot. It weighs 1.97 carats and was a relative bargain for this color because of its transparency problems. I am pleased with the stone, imperfections and all.
