This Dravite has a nice spicy color I am calling nutmeg. It weighs 2.04 carats, is clean and bright. It probably came from East Africa.
On the back of this box I have brown for the color of this beautiful emerald cut, That certainly lacks the flickering fire of inspiration that is need to sell tourmaline. We need a spice name for the long ratio, clean emerald cut, that has a great color. It is a bit yellowish for cinnamon, so I will now call it nutmeg. This dravite, the old name, and others have been coming out of East Africa with colors that can help improve tourmaline’s image with the public, even if it is really just a beautiful brown. P.S. I like brown and when it has a touch of red I call it mahogany.
The emerald cut is modest in size at 2.04 carats, but is unusual, with dravite, in not being very dichroic. Even the ends are brown and not dark. It is most likely that this gemstone is an Elbaite and not the species Dravite which is another mineral in the family of minerals, we call tourmaline.
