Mahogany is the name I would give this 23.4 carat round. It is bright and open and is unique in the collection. It is different rather than ugly to me.
This large standard brilliant round weighs in at 23.4 carats, which makes it a heavy weight contender. It came to me preformed to be a round and I did not have any qualms about going with the shape. I can see some red in the piece and instead of brown, that is on the box, or dravite, which is the traditional trade name for brown tourmaline, I would call this gemstone’s color mahogany.
Now that it has a nice name and with a tone level that is not too high, why did it win the ugliest award from a high end dealer that was looking at my collection. (he use to work in Beverly Hills) Because the gemstone was big and brown and hard to miss. Brown just doesn’t work for some people, but I like it. The heavy weight’s charms of purity and flash take a little time and effort to enjoy. Time he didn’t have. I don’t know how well it would do snuggled up close to the twin towers of feminine beauty found on all Hollywood starlets, but it is beautiful in my world.
