This really nice blue green color dot is a standard round brilliant as they all are and weighs .27 carats.
When I restarted my faceting life, I did not spend a lot of money on rough. This got me focused on seeing how small a gemstone I could cut. I bought a lot of “mine run” tourmaline rough from Afghanistan and enjoyed cutting the bits and pieces left over after the “good” stuff was gone for a year. This and other small stuff really did not challenge my cutting skill as much as it showed the limits of my ability to keep small pieces of rough on the dop stick. I would look at these color dots that were all standard round brilliants and fantasize about such colors in larger stones. Well hard work, some luck, and silver did enable me to fulfill my color fantasy way beyond my modest expectations.
This blue green color dot catches your eye despite its diminutive size of .27 carats. Being small it doesn’t tell you much about itself except that it is a swirling flash of bright color. Purity is really not a problem in this sized gemstones since any problems would preclude the cutting of the gemstone in the first place.
