This Barion cut sea foam is beautiful. It does have a feather on the side of the table that has a few noticeable islands. Face up the gemstone appears clean. It weighs 5.84 carats.
Face up this top quality sea foam looks flawless because I manage to get a slight feather just out from under the table. As you tilt and rotate the nice sized Barion cushion cut you can see a few islands caused by inclusions associate with the feather. One of the most noticeable does flash and the other is white and dead.
Why didn’t I remove the feather. The stone has a weight of 5.84 carats and the rest of the gemstone outside of the feather is at least eye clean so there is room to work. Narrowing the gemstone would have cost me both weight and tonal value. I would have also been unable to use the Barion cushion efficiently. So I made a decision that I have done over and over again about what to take out and what to leave in. This is a beautiful medium toned gemstone and a prized member of the collection and I don’t think that my thinking was flawed when I kept the flaw.
