This is one of the best yellows in the collection. It has an excellent tone level, good saturation and a nice size of 2.09 carats. It is included, but still bright and flashy, which is common is this rare color of tourmaline.
Now my mornings do not start off greenish or brownish and this oval will have none of it. I was cut from one of two larger pieces of water worn crystals from East Africa that I got together, long before “canary” tourmaline was promoted. (Canary is a name given to a “new” deposit of expensive yellow with very good tone and saturation from East Africa).
I obtained the rough inexpensively because it was extensively flawed. I worked hard to cut the best gemstones I could get from this rare color in tourmaline, but all of them are visibly included. The best was a good sized shield cut that appears clean without close observation. This bright happy oval has many ghost like, long stringy clouds that parallel the sides of the gemstone. They do not flash and are not that distracting. In a perfect world I would get yellow tourmaline without flaws, but I gladly accept this medium dark toned yellow with excellent saturation into the top color section of the collection. Color is the primary driver of this collection. It weighs 2.09 hard won carats.
