This would be called a Rubellite by many people, but it is not quite red. It has a good amount of flash in a great body that appears to be eye clean and with a fine crystal. It weighs 6.69 carats.
Now, I love a flashing piece of eye candy as much as anyone, but that is not in every piece of rough, no mater how good the lapidary effort has been. The posted gemstone has a solid amount of flash in a rich pink body that speaks with authority. It doesn’t have to show its color only threw flashing, but it is a more personal stone than the pieces of eye candy. You can think of this pink as on the way toward red, but its medium dark tone level is not quite high enough to make it. I bet that it would still be called a ruby, if it was corundum. Anyway you look at it, the color is beautiful, the stone eye clean and with good crystal, so it is a joy to twist and turn in the light. It weighs a solid 6.69 carats and would be called a Rubellite by many if not most of the trade I have dealt with.
