This standard round brilliant has a single thin white inclusion, next to its girdle. Face up it is hard to see in the medium dark gemstone. The rest of the gemstone is fine. It weighs .86 carats an is a fine droplet of color.
I am guilty of pushing the rough to get the best yield I can while protecting the color potential of the piece of rough. What has to give, at times, is the retention of flaws that could have been removed. This standard round brilliant is an example of that philosophy. Except for a thin white opaque flaw that sits along the side of the girdle, this round is eye clean, bright and flashy. I could have easily removed this flaw from the .86 carat gemstone, while probably reducing it to half its size, but it would have been a waste to me. If this stone is ever set, a reasonable choice of a setting could conceal the flaw and reveal the true beauty of the stone. I would also loose a lot of medium dark, forest green that I love in a droplet of color.
