This is the only oval in the collection with such a long ratio. It has a fine yellow in an eye clean stone with excellent crystal. There is no brown cast, but you may see a bit of green in some lights. It weighs 1.72 carats.
I kept this yellow piece of rough for a long time because I wanted to cut this rare color in tourmaline with as little loss in weight as possible. But that meant I would have to cut a very long ratio oval and I was not prepared to do that. Finally I had experiment enough with meet point cutting to get acceptable ovals and the yellow trip began. The rough came from East Africa and was a little brittle, (a little roughness on the keels), but the stone held together. It has a very nice rather citrus yellow with a touch of green in some lights, but no brown. It appears to eye clean and with fine crystal. I find the extra long ratio in the oval to be a bit much, but others have liked it, and this is the only example I have cut. I am really rather a stick in the mud kind of lapidary when it comes to experimenting with cuts. I want my color in a traditional format or have a very good reason to change, that deals with presenting color not just different flash patterns. This long long oval weighs 1.72 carats.
