This medium toned brown is dichroic. The hexagonal cut has a limited ability to mix the light brown and dark brown dichroic colors together. The stones is bright, eye clean and flashy. It weighs 3.63 carats.
In an attempt to use a cut that better blends the stones two dichroic colors, together I used a modified emerald cut. The cut does not demand as much depth to the gemstone as a Barion cushion and it is less work. The new cut worked OK, but I have only used it this time because I really did not care for its flash pattern. The paler honey brown a/b color really dominates the side of the emerald cut shaped stone and and the darker honey brown c axis color is still mostly isolated in the ends. With this stone’s response to the cut, I decided that I preferred to stay with emerald cuts for dichroic, but open ended tourmalines and so I did.
The posted gemstone looks like an emerald cut from the top, but has a culet. It appears to be eye clean with fine crystal. It is dichroic, but the c axis is not too dark and the sum of both axis is a very nice medium toned golden brown. It weighs 3.63 carats.
