In the “old” days, when tourmaline for the intrepid amateur cutter, was more available, one of my primary dealers out of Africa would send out emails on new finds of tourmaline. (and other gemstones). This posted gemstone was one of the pieces of rough I bought threw an emailed offering that covered tourmaline from Tanzania. The material was actually from an old find and had colors from golden browns to pretty pure yellows. One of the rough selling points was its purity.
This golden brown oval appears to be eye clean and not dichroic. It has a two step crown that directs you into the bright medium toned center of the gemstone, easily. It weighs 2.78 carats and really does seem to be different, but it is still a Elbaite, not a Dravite the species. Though the trade would use the term dravite for this and every other tourmaline with a significant amount of brown in its color. I have since made this honey brown color feel more at home by actively pursuing this color with good success.
