This standard round brilliant red and that is all it ever is, red. It appears to be eye clean and bright enough to really show off its red color. It weighs 1.23 and is a fine droplet of color and is a Rubellite.
I was reading that Rubellite should be dropped from being a trade name for red tourmaline because it is deceptive. This despite the fact that Rubellite is an old established name under which millions of tourmaline have been sold. The rational was that no tourmaline’s really look like rubies (corundum gets dibs on the Latin root for red, because its ruby, I guess) and on top of that it is never really red. I think a better route is for the trade to limit Rubellite to stones like the posted round.
This standard round brilliant, is red like most rubies are not. It does not go brown or purplish under adverse condition like incandescent light or gray days. It actually appears to be eye clean and have a light enough tone to really show off the red. This would be exceptional for many rubies on the market. It weighs 1.23 carats and deserves to be honor as a Rubellite, droplet of color.
