This 23.19 carat modified round is clean and bright and has a classic brownish yellow green color that is not dichroic.
Over the years that I have cut tourmaline, this is the only one that I purchased preformed (for greatness?). When you’re trying to get the widest collection of color in tourmaline, you have to seek out exceptional pieces that don’t have exceptional color. This is an example of an exceptional tourmaline at a finished weight of 23.19 carats with a flawless body and an appropriate level of tone while having a less than desirable brownish cast in its color. I would say that the color is a pretty classic tourmaline color, but it is not dichroic, which helps make the gem very transparent and consistent in color.
The gemstone has a deep crown, that is a modified step cut. When this simple crown is combined with a standard round brilliant pavilion, I find it makes a very bright gemstone. In this case the modified step cut let me adjust the crown thickness to fit the preform, saving weight and helping making the gem as rich in color as I could make it.
